"I've known Frank Hamilton since he was in college and he is, believe me, one of the most creative musicians in the country. No, in the world! I hope many, many, many people hear this wonderful CD." Pete Seeger
Long Lonesome Home: A collection of songs and stories celebrating the true spirit of American folk music
In 1963, Frank was a member of the folk group, "The Weavers". He has recorded, performed in concert and accompanied notables such as Pete Seeger, The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, Shoshanna Damari, Martha Schlamme, Bud and Travis, Tom Paxton, Joan Baez, Woody Guthrie, Cisco Houston, Mahalia Jackson, Theodore Bikel, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Hoyt Axton, Rod McKuen and Odetta. He has recorded for Folkways and Vanguard Records and appeared in numerous folk festivals, on notably the Newport Folk Festival in 1959. He was house musician for the first folk music night club, Chicago's Gate of Horn in 1956.
In November, 1957, he was a founder of Old Town School of Folk Music. It thrives today as a Chicago landmark with an enrollment of 3,000 students.
"Here is genuine American folk music in all of its wonderful diversity, sung and played with knowledge, love and artistry by a master. Don't loan it to anyone, you may not get it back." Tommy Makem
"The folksinger's folksinger -- master of the art!" Odetta
Music Class families know Frank and his wife Mary through the wonderful songs they have written for us. We also thoroughly enjoy Frank as the "grandpa" voice heard on many of our songs. I’m so happy to be able to offer his CD for everyone to enjoy! Rob Sayer |
